Photography in Karlovac
The time of the invention of photography, 1838 precisely, was the time of economic and cultural prosperity in Karlovac. The formation of a single customs area and the systematic construction of roads provided easy access for foreigners from all parts of the Monarchy, particularly for the ones from the more developed parts such as Germans and Czechs, who were favoured by the Germanization policy, and who brought along new experience of technical nature. At that time, visual arts were dominated by portrait-painting, particularly by miniatures.
