The register book of the members of the archers’ and hunters’ society which was started up in 1851 and the selected examples of weapons and shooting targets tell us about the oldest organized sport in Karlovac. As Karlovac was founded as a military town, the development of sports followed from the fostering of military sports disciplines. Shooting competitions were often held out in the open, while the season lasted from spring to autumn.
The best shooters were awarded painted targets which had the name of the winner or the honorary award presenter and the date of the competition written on them.
