Cultural societies
But to organize a really exciting programme for the social life stage we have just described, various societies were of decisive importance; our contemporary historians would describe them as the new, more democratic way of living together which occurred in the light of the Illyrian revival.
Before we look for further testimony to this new type of socializing in Room 7, let us stop by one item: that is the dance rule book of the Zvonimir Society of 1891, made as a heart-shaped pendant. At the back there is a small booklet with a tiny pencil which serves as a fastener. It contains a record of the planned ball and a list of the dances next to which the dancing pairs could be inserted. The dances were: kolo, polka, waltz and quadrille.
