Men of The Illyrian age – Find the odd one out
To the young Josip Šipuš of Karlovac the trade practice that could be observed in his town was an incentive to delve into the theory of economics, the first attempt of the kind in Croatia; his work titled The Basis of the Grain Trade based on English, French and German literature was printed in 1796.
Several decades later came another Croatian debut of its genre; that is the political dissertation by Count Janko Drašković which originated as instructions for the Croatian members of Parliament on how to protect the people’s interests in the parliament in Požun. It was printed in 1832 in the print-house of the Karlovac-born Ivan Nepomuk Prettner whose practice, as was customary in those days, combined printing, publishing and book selling.
