Part of a Wedgwood dinner set
This oval soup tureen is the largest piece of the 26-pieces preserved from a dinner set; we have displayed part of the set in our imaginary salon. The soup tureen has an under-plate and a cover, and is shaped in a typically subdued classicistic manner. The wide handles are of volute shape and the top of the cover is in the shape of a flower.
The genre scene is repeated on the ovals of the cover and the under-plate, as well as on the body of the tureen: behind the architectural fragments and the vase with flowers, we can see three picnickers and a town on the opposite side of the lake. A Neo-Rococo style bordure runs on both of the ovals highlighted by flower cartouches. The set was produced in England somewhere between 1860 and 1878.
