The Border landscape
Even though the construction of the military complex along the river Kupa and its tributaries reached its peak in the context of the Ottoman breakthrough in Europe, this contact point had always been an area of very densely set fortress positions.
The cultural monuments register of the County of Karlovac contains almost thirty old towns and about ten fortresses; even so, the majority of them are a demolished state. These are mainly layered buildings located on hills along rivers or roads which almost always testify not only to a feudal medieval community but also to ancient, at times even pre-historic types of tribal organisation….
