Poverty at the Ozalj crossing

The usual lack of evidence related to medieval times in continental Croatia, particularly of material remains dating earlier than the 13th century, makes the insights provided to us by the findings from the Ozalj site all the more valuable. This is where early proof of Christianity was found - for example the cross-shaped fibula dating from the 6th century which we have displayed here; at the same time traces of Croatians settling in these areas date from the 7th to the 9th centuries.
