Was Karlovac attacked?
Karlovac was erected during the hardest period of the Croatian history, thus from its very beginning it also was an asylum for refugees from the neighbouring settlements, for instance the refugees from Dubovec who suffered greatly on Good Friday in 1578. Fighting with the Osmanli in the vicinity of Karlovac was most frequent towards the end of the 16th century and during the first half of the 17th century. According to the records, Karlovac whose defence was successfully led by the hero of the battle of Sisak, Andrija Auersperg, was surrounded in 1594 by an army of 16.000 Osmanli.
