Although a garment made out of white home-made cloth is the common basis of a wider area around Karlovac, there are at the same time significant differences. It occurs in several versions which differ from each other in the way of decorating, the female headdress and the waistcoats for women and men.
In all versions, the garment is made out of evenly cut pieces of material joint at the edges. Fitted look around the neck, hands and waist is achieved by gathering the fabric in tiny dense folds. Judging by these characteristics which have not changed for centuries, in terms of development, the traditional linen costumes, whether female, or male, mark a transitional point – from untailored and unsewn clothes to tailored and sewn clothing.
